Damon braces – combining traditional treatment with the latest technology
We are proud to be at the forefront of practices around the world offering the Damon system of braces to our patients. Our principal orthodontist, Dr Pieter van Heerden is internationally renowned for the use of Damon braces and travels regularly to lecture on the technology used.
How does the Damon system work?
Traditional orthodontic treatment uses brackets, archwires and elastics. The archwires are ‘tied in’ to the fixed brackets with small elastic bands or stainless steel wires. Although Damon braces may look like traditional metal braces, in actual fact they have a unique technology of built in sliding doors. These 'doors' hold the wire while allowing it to move freely, guiding your teeth into a straighter position.
Is the Damon system for me?
The Damon system of braces can be used to treat the majority of orthodontic cases, both major and minor. The technology this system uses means the braces are not only customised to the needs of your teeth, but they respond to your teeth's movement.
Benefits of Damon braces
- High-tech, low force wires achieve tooth movements
- Braces are available with clear brackets, although these may not be suitable for every case
- Self-ligating method can get great results
- Braces control the treatment progress
