The smart way to a healthy smile

Dental monitoring

It just got a whole lot easier to get a beautiful, healthy new smile at Harpenden Orthodontics. That’s because we’re using dental monitoring, an app on your smartphone that allows us to track the movement of your teeth.

This means many things but most importantly it means you now have greater flexibility to enjoy treatment and fewer appointments to add into your busy schedule.

Want to find out more? We thought you might!

What is dental monitoring?

Dental monitoring is an app on your smartphone which is It’s synced with software in our clinic. If you are a private patient of our specialist orthodontist, Dr Pieter Van Heerden receiving Invisalign treatment, we will instruct you on how to upload photos of your teeth to the dental monitoring app so we can view them.

The purpose of the weekly photos that you’ll be required to take is to enable us to track your treatment progress. At the start of your treatment journey we’ll outline a treatment plan. This details the extent to which your teeth should move at every stage of your treatment. We’ll compare your weekly photos against this treatment plan and if the position of your teeth aligns with the position in your plan, you won’t need to come in for a check-up!

How can dental monitoring help you?

Dental monitoring has made having Invisalign treatment even easier. As a patient you no longer need to worry about how you’ll fit regular orthodontic appointments into an already busy schedule of work, family commitments, travel and the occasional holiday.

Life doesn’t have to be put on hold just because your having orthodontic treatment and dental monitoring makes sure of that.

Benefits of dental monitoring

Dental monitoring has revolutionised the orthodontic industry, making it easier for you, the patient to have orthodontic treatment and us, the orthodontic professionals, to achieve the result you’re after.

Here are five benefits of incorporating dental monitoring into your Invisalign treatment plan:

  • Fewer appointments in the diary.
  • Greater communication with Dr Van Heerden – you’ll be in touch weekly rather than every six to eight weeks.
  • More flexibility – you don’t have to organise your life around when you need to see the orthodontist.
  • Greater accuracy of results – dental monitoring allows us to monitor the movement of your teeth right down to pixel level.
  • An easier treatment experience overall

What’s more, the dental monitoring app is extremely easy to use. At your fitting appointment, we’ll also set you up with dental monitoring and show you the best way to take a photo of your teeth so we can track your treatment accurately.

Smile 1

Thank you so much for the wonderful work that you have put into my treatment! Before I had braces I was very aware and self-conscious about smiling. I did not have nice teeth and would feel embarassed whenever I smiled. However, now that my treatment is finally finished I have the confidence to smile a huge smile. Although the process was quite long (because of the state of my teeth) it was definately well worth the wait.
