Common questions about orthodontics
The main aim of orthodontics is to improve your bite and correct the motion of your jaw. This not only makes your bite more comfortable, but can lead to other advantages such as improved sleeping, improved overall comfort, and a better smile for boosted confidence and self-esteem.
The NHS funding is only available to those under the age of 18 that meet strict criteria. We perform free assessments of your teeth to ascertain if you are eligible. If you do not meet the criteria, we will discuss private treatment options with you.
There is no age limit for orthodontic treatment. In fact, treatment in adults has become a lot more popular with invisible treatments like Invisalign® clear aligners becoming more mainstream.
Each smile is different from the last, and as such, there is no one solution for every orthodontic problem. When you come in for your free consultation, your Specialist Orthodontist will assess your specific needs and discuss the different treatment options available for you.
The length of treatment depends on many factors such as the severity of your problem and the treatment option selected. To get the best idea of how long your treatment will take, speak with your Specialist Orthodontist during your free initial consultation.
As a rule of thumb, you will need to see us at the clinic every 6-10 weeks. Through the use of modern technology, we are, in some cases, able to perform remote consultations. Dental Monitoring is an app that can be used on your mobile device in place of a clinical visit for Invisalign® treatments.
The actual cost of treatment depends on many varying factors like the severity of your orthodontic problem and the treatment option selected. Our Treatment Coordinator will give you a clear outline of the costs involved for your treatment during your first consultation so you can consider the costs before committing to treatment. We also offer all our patients custom payment plans to help make treatment more affordable for their budgets.
Once your teeth have been moved into their new position, they will naturally want to move back, which is why we will fit a retainer for you. Your retainer will help to keep your teeth in proper alignment. Your Specialist Orthodontist will discuss how long you need to use your retainer after treatment.
Tightness and mild discomfort is normal during the first few days of your treatment and can be controlled by over-the-counter painkillers. Should your discomfort not subside after a few days, it’s best to contact the practice and book a consultation.
We offer a range of braces and aligner options to suit different cases and lifestyles. To get an understanding of what we have to offer, have a look at our treatments page. We will also discuss all the options available for you when you come in for your free consultation.
