Invisible treatment with visible results
Invisalign can help treat a variety of orthodontic concerns, including teeth which are crooked, crowded or with gaps. The Invisalign system uses aligners which fit over your upper and lower teeth, gently moving them into position. Each set of aligners is made from clear material making this method of orthodontic treatment virtually invisible.
At Harpenden Orthodontics, we are recognised as Diamond Invisalign providers.
How does Invisalign work?
We start by taking a scan of your upper and lower teeth. These scans are important because they provide us with a 3D image of your teeth, enabling us to see exactly what your orthodontic needs are. You’ll be able to view these scans as well. In fact, these scans will give you a virtual representation of your teeth, before, during and after your treatment journey.
The scans we take are used to custom make your Invisalign aligners. Because each of us have a unique set of teeth, much like we have unique fingerprints, every patient has aligners that are made just for them. Invisalign aligners should be worn 22 hours a day. They should only be removed when eating, brushing or flossing your teeth. They can also be removed for important occasions, such as family weddings or client facing meetings - this is one of the real benefits of Invisalign treatment. However, we ask you keep these occasions to a minimum. The more you take your aligners out, the longer your treatment will take, and the less effective it could become.
Once you have been fitted with your unique set of aligners, we ask you come in for a check up every eight to 12 weeks. During these visits, we'll monitor your progress and give you your next set of aligners.
Types of Invisalign
Invisalign caters for all patients, from our teenage patients to those who want results in as short a time as possible. The different programmes of Invisalign treatment are:
- Invisalign Comprehensive - the original Invisalign orthodontic method, Invisalign Comprehensive uses a series of aligners to move teeth into position. These aligners are suited to treat both major and minor cases. Treatment time is between 18 and 30 months.
- Invisalign Lite - not every patient requires major orthodontic work. In fact for some, all that is required is straightening of the front six teeth. Invisalign Lite can get results in as little as six months.
- Invisalign Express - for patients requiring minor orthodontic work of the front six teeth, another fast treatment option is Invisalign Express which can get results in as little as three months.
- Invisalign First - for children requiring preparatory orthodontic work, Invisalign First aligners can help to lessen the extent of orthodontic treatment your child may require in their teenage years.
Invisalign is also suitable for teenage patients.
